Job Summary
The Vice President, NERC Reliability Assurance is responsible for providing strategic leadership to AEP’s multi- region, multi-registration, multi-subsidiary NERC reliability compliance program. Provides program-wide strategic alignment, coordination, oversight, communication, advocacy and compliance assurance activities to ensure AEP’s reliability compliance program maintains a consistent, effective, and efficient approach across the enterprise.
Job Description
Principal Accountabilities
Accountable for ensuring AEP’s NERC Reliability Assurance Program achieves its mission, vision and strategic objectives
Partner with executive leadership and stakeholders to establish strategy and tactics for managing compliance and associated risks, aligning understanding of AEP’s risk appetite across the enterprise
Champions efforts across the enterprise to achieve operational excellence in reliability and NERC compliance
Develops and cultivates relationships with NERC and Regional Stakeholders
Governs, develops and executes policies, guidelines, standards and procedures supporting reliability compliance
Executes strategies to manage potential impacts of NERC related federal legislative issues impacting reliability and security of the grid
Supports corporate strategic objectives through collaboration, consensus building, and alignment of NERC related topics to broader issues
Provides leadership and direction for the continuous improvement and refinement of the company’s NERC Reliability Assurance initiatives
Ensures independent oversight is maintained in evaluating AEP’s compliance to the NERC standards
Ensures appropriate metrics are established and maintained to monitor controls and compliance to the NERC standards
Oversees the execution of regional audits to ensure compliance to the NERC standards
Ensures appropriate training and development is established for compliance of existing, new and revised NERC compliance standards
Responsible for the executions of AEPs NERC compliance multi-tiered governance structure
Advocates for a strong reliability and compliance culture through daily leadership, communication and behavior through a high level of interface with the organization
Exercises leadership responsibilities, including assignment of work, priority-setting, promotions, coaching, disciplinary actions, evaluating individual and organizational performance, and training
Minimum Requirements
Education:
- Bachelor's degree
Experience:
Minimum ten years' experience in management or leadership role in the utility industry
Experience in staff development and budget management
Experience in federal operations regulations is a plus but not required
Demonstrated ability to be an effective transformative leader that values collaboration
Demonstrated ability to implement and execute corporate strategy pertaining to compliance
Possess a solid understanding and commitment to the Electric Reliability Organization construct including Reliability Standards and requirements, Rules of Procedure and governance
Possess a solid understanding of NERC compliance execution in relation to utility practices
Possess a general understanding of governance, risk management and compliance

Compensation Range:
$210,822.00-274,067.00 USD
