Position Summary: This position is part of the Telecom Enterprise Operations – Network Ops Team, focusing on enterprise networking services including but not limited to routing and switching, operational support, project implementation and maintenance. This team participates in the design, installation, configuration, support and performance analysis of intermediate and enterprise networks and systems. They must possess an intermediate understanding of communications technologies and demonstrate the ability to perform routine tasks. Each member performs project management duties on routine assignments independently and has the ability to analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve network problems of moderate complexity. This team also provides 24x7 on-call support of the enterprise IP networks.

Principal Accountabilities:

Essential Function: Participates in the design, installation, configuration, troubleshooting and performance analysis of AEP’s intermediate and enterprise telecommunication networks and systems. Participate in the on-call process for support of the enterprise network devices

  1. Understand and follow policies, practices, procedures, standards, and rules of the company and complies with the regulations and procedures required by external agencies.

  2. Coordinate and monitor work activities, using approved applications and tools, for projects as required to perform routine engineering tasks.

  3. Perform documentation of project work using established guidelines

  4. Learn AEP’s organizational structure and the specific role and responsibility of their individual organizational unit.

  5. Adhere to AEP’s budgeting and approval processes as part of annual planning and project planning.

  6. Perform routine engineering activity with minimum direction from higher level employees

  7. Utilize basic techniques to perform analysis associated with the resolution of routine technical problems

  8. Apply economic analysis techniques in project development and approval

  9. Demonstrate knowledge of AEP networks, components and facilities by enable more efficient and comprehensive responses to projects and problems.

  10. Follow the standard workflow for routine engineering projects.

Minimum Requirements:

Telecom Network Consultant:

Education: Bachelor degree in engineering, engineering technology, computer science or telecommunications

Experience: 4 Years of relevant experience with Bachelor Degree or 8 years relevant experience without one of the Bachelor Degrees listed above

Licenses/Certifications : Valid Driver License Required.

Telecom Network Consultant Sr:

Education: Bachelor degree in engineering, engineering technology, computer science or telecommunications

Experience: 6 Years of relevant experience with Bachelor Degree or 10 years relevant experience without one of the Bachelor Degrees listed above

Licenses/Certifications: Valid Driver License Required.

Preferred Technical Knowledge/Experience:

  • Focused experience with CISCO hardware and IOS configuration (routing and switching)

  • IP subnets including masking

  • Layer 2/3: EIGRP, BGP, VLANs

  • CISCO Wireless networking

  • Strong communication skills both verbal and written

Beneficial Advanced Knowledge/Experience:

  • Load balancing, especially f5 LTM and DNS (GTM)

  • DNS, DHCP, IP Management

  • Scripting and programming language experience; TCL, Python, f5 iRules

  • Radius / TACACS infrastructure experience

  • Cisco ACS / Cisco ISE·

  • Arista hardware and EOS configurationArista hardware and EOS configuration Certification: Cisco Certified CCNA or CCNP or CCIE
